Kethos and the SWADE Fantasy Companion

The latest product release (FREE by the way) provides a compatibility guide and commentary for using SWADE Fantasy Companion content in the Kethos setting, identifying which original rules from Kethos Book 1 are retained, adapted, or replaced. Book 1 of the Kethos setting was published a couple of years before the release of the SWADE Fantasy Companion in 2022, and thus has several setting-specific rules and systems in Chapter 12 and Chapter 13. Many of these were made redundant by rules and systems in Fantasy Companion, which now constitutes the “official” rules on such topics, as well as bards, clerics, druids, or ritual magic.

While the original rules will still work just fine, we here at Kethos Project find that some of the new rules in Fantasy Companion are superior in ease of use. They tend to have fewer moving parts or fit better with other rules and settings. The purpose of this document is to help GM’s and players adapt the SWADE Fantasy Companion to the Kethos setting, with a mix of minor changes and the continued use of some Kethos-specific rules.
